Flat 73

BY GAYE POOLE

Music by ARne Richards
Directed by Kevin Tomlinson
Human Story Theatre - Flat 73

2016 / 2017

A one hour play with music about loneliness and the Samaritans.

Battersby Buildings has 75 flats and yet very few people know each other. There’s Beryl, 68, and recently widowed; Chelsea, a new mum at 18; and Simon, a young man with learning disabilities. There is also Laura, a Samaritan, living in Flat 73, who on one fateful day unknowingly brings them all together.

Running time 50 mins.
Followed by a 20 minute post-show Q&A with experts from the Samaritans and other supporting organisations that welcome volunteers.

An informal atmosphere is created for the Q&A, facilitated by the two actors, with local specialists able to signpost people to their local services. Building on the story within the play, the audience is also encouraged to share their own experiences, both to ‘offload’ and also to help support fellow audience members, if appropriate.

Supported by Samaritans (Oxford), RVS (Banbury), OCVA (Barton), Age UK Oxfordshire and AMI (Oxford).

Arts Partnership Manager - Age UK Oxfordshire - Sept 2016

“I am keen to support this project and the high quality artists that are developing this work in Oxford. More needs to be done to raise these important issues and a tour such as this is a very welcomed approach in the county."

Rosie Bloom

Daily Info

"This drama is thought-provoking, discussion-launching, and certainly for me, donation-worthy."
