Scenes From...

One of Human Story Theatre’s aims is to support local playwrights and their new writing. To help achieve this we produce a biannual event Scenes From…

This is a chance to see extracts from two new plays brought alive by professional actors in an intimate setting. 1 hour of ‘script-in-hand’ drama plus 1 hour of discussion with the writers, director & actors.

Scenes From… usually ‘pops up’ in The Loft at Arts at the Old Fire Station, Oxford. But we have also had events at Oxford Brookes University Think Human Festival (working with their creative writing and drama students) and Thame Literary Festival.

Audience Feedback

John Retallack

Writer and Theatre Director

“Had a great night with Human Story Theatre. We heard two contrasting plays, both of the highest standard, which were given excellent readings - I think the audience of some 30 people all wanted to hear more. Staged readings are such an effective way of creating interest and energy around a play - and so useful to the writers! It was good to meet everyone in person too. An excellent evening.”

Nick O’Dwyer

Writer & Film-maker

“It was the usual warm and enabling atmosphere I’ve come to expect from Human Story Theatre nights and that’s a tribute to the spirit Gaye and Amy both bring to the room.”

Zena Forster

Playwright

“It can be bruising to show work in development to an audience, but Human Story Theatre’s Scenes From… provided a professional team in a supportive environment and was hugely useful to me as a playwright. Human Story Theatre’s ongoing commitment to new writing is vital.”

Karen Ford

Actor

“I thought it was a tremendous evening....just so pleased to be a part of it.”
